5 Gift ideas for an art enthusiast – from 177.- at 7.-
Christmas is just around the corner, with it the famous question: “What will I give this year?” If you are looking for an original gift for an art or architecture lover, here are five ideas, suitable for all budgets.
1.Swiss Museum Passport (177.-)
For museum lovers, here is the ultimate gift: a card that opens the doors to more than 500 museums and castles throughout Switzerland. Valid for one year from the date of your choice, this passport works like a GA, but for museums. This is ideal for someone who often visits museums (or who restricts themselves given the prices of certain museums). It's also a great way to encourage people to travel around Switzerland to explore new exhibitions.
2. A Subscription to the Casabella Magazine (122.-)
Casabella is THE architecture magazine par excellence, bilingual in Italian/English. Intended for architects and enthusiasts, it offers a selection of current projects and trends each month. In addition to being a concentration of information and inspiration, the magazine is a design object in itself: its square format and thick pages make you want to keep it carefully.
3. Historical Comic Strip (26.-)
Historical comics are, in my opinion, the most fun way to learn about the life of an architect or an artist.
For example :
Last week I talked to you about comic The House under the Sun, which explores Eileen Gray's best-known architectural work, Villa E.1027, and its complex relationship with Corbusier. In addition to having a captivating story, its incredible illustrations make the comic a gem of art in itself.
Charlotte Perriand, French architect in Japan (1940-1942). Perriand is an icon of design and architecture, but she has also often been forgotten by history, in favor of her master and collaborator Le Corbusier... who often forgot to quote her…
These two comics are sold on the fnac.ch website between 26.- and 30.-
4. Carnet de Croquis (10.-)
If you don't have a big budget but want to give a nice little notebook, I recommend the Sakura brand (sold at Manor). The thick pages are reminiscent of the famous Moleskine notebooks (architects' favorite notebook?), but without the price pupil.
5. ILA clearance sale (from 7.-)
As some of you know, I recently opened a clearance sale where I sell clothes that I have created over the last three years. 100% cotton and fairtrade, these pieces are available from 7.- (shipping costs included). Prices are deliberately low to free up space in my workshop and prepare new creations.
